SESSION 3 – WATER

Life’s uncertainties bring us through distinct phases, some of which we invite, others we wish to deter. Water takes on new forms dependent upon its conditions, becoming what it needs to evolve. Just as the essence of water remains when it takes on a different state, so do the centres of who we are through personal change. The work delved into will open up the space to consider the functions of water, through its properties of cleansing and renewal. Its fluidity reminds us there are unmarked pathways that can be created and taken in the face of stagnancy. The expansiveness of water helps us to look beyond what is readily apparent, and invites us to be attentive to our own depths, and our ability to transform.

After the readings, Reiki energy work will be offered by Sharu as a space to process and integrate the day’s emotional and somatic responses. Reiki works with subtle energies in the body, drawing on life-force energy and conscious surrender to clear energetic pathways. By bringing awareness to points of tension and where energy may feel held or blocked, the practice invites a deeper awareness of our embodied habits and creates conditions for renewed responses to stress.

ABOUT OUR FACILITATORS

Our final session will be facilitated by featured poet, Christopher Kaputo and Tender Possibilities’ founder, Farhia Tato

Christopher Kaputo (he/him) is a Congolese poet/multidisciplinary artist based in Tkaronto. Through the art of written and spoken word, he introduces an honest perspective of his upbringing, rooted in a humanity that he hopes can become a shared experience that brings people together despite differences. He uses poetry as a means to connect, remember and transform the ways we relate to ourselves and others.

Farhia Tato is a Somali-Oromo writer, place-based curator and community organizer whose work engages with hybridity. Drawn to the unexpected ways people connect and improvise, she writes poems about surveillance, entanglement, environment and desire. Farhia is the founder and artistic director of Tender Possibilities, a participatory poetry exploration and creative placemaking initiative. Currently, she is co-developing Poetic Assembly, an interdisciplinary project that engages literature, sound, and community programming as tools for cultural regeneration and relationality. At its core is a mobile library designed to circulate essential poetry and critical texts.
