Water Advocacy 101: Citizen Science for Water

Join Swim Drink Fish, Beyond the River, CPAWS Northern Alberta and Touch Grass Club as we explore water quality issues impacting the North Saskatchewan Watershed.

Learn how to advocate for the health of our watershed, and how to go about becoming a citizen scientist for water quality testing and shoreline monitoring.

We will start off with some short talks and introductions, then launch into community science; water quality testing and shoreline monitoring. Later sitting down to capture stories of the river, screen print tshirts, and practice water advocacy.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

• Build a stronger connection to their local waters and watershed.
• Learn about the stories, relationships, and significance of local waterways.
• Reflect on their personal relationship with water by creating a Watermark (sharing stories of the river).
• Learn how to use the VAST platform to monitor shoreline conditions and contribute to community science.
• Understand how emerging community science tools like Water Rangers kits support water stewardship and environmental monitoring.
• Leave with practical tools and knowledge to participate in protecting local waters.
