We're back.
After the busiest summer we've ever had, it's time to do the thing this whole community was built on: slow down, get outside, and waffle with good people. We've missed you ever so much.
Last year for our mystical wander we climbed one of the Devil's hills. This year we climb the other. Cissbury Ring is Chanctonbury's sister... an ancient hillfort with 5,000-year-old mines beneath your feet, a fair few legends we'll save for the walk, and on a clear day, the sea laid out beneath you. It's the perfect place to close a season.
What to expect
A slow, unhurried loop around the ring and the surrounding downland. We'll wander, we'll waffle, and at the top we'll stop for a short breath and take in the views of the coastline. Then back down past the wild ponies.
No pace, no pressure, no experience needed. Dogs welcome. Coming on your own is completely normal here, most people did the first time.
It's the weekend before Halloween
So yes: witch hats, capes, whatever makes you smile. Dress up as much or as little as you like. Last year's hats made the best photo we've ever taken so we will bring them again.
The details
- Free, always has been, just grab a ticket as we cap the number to keep it cosy.
- Meet 9:45am at the Cissbury Ring car park, there is also lots of road parking here.
- Approx 6km, some uphill, mostly gentle but can get you puffing.
- Wear boots or trainers you don't mind getting muddy
- Bring a warm layer, water, and something to drink at the top
- Back at the cars by 1pm at the latest.
Who we are
Wander & Waffle is where Zenné began. Before the breathwork, before any of it, there was a Sunday, a stretch of downs, and a handful of people who said yes to walking & talking with strangers. Most of them are still wandering with us now.
