About this Event
WHEN ~ SPRING WALK DATE ~ NO. 1 ~ Saturday 11th May 2024
ELEMENT ~ PHYSICALITY
WHAT
Walking it Out ~ is a short series of 4 gatherings across Spring & Summer 2024, inviting Birthing Mothers identifying as Artists & Creatives for an inter-disciplinary exploration ~ Post Hands-on Mothering ~ What Next?
As we transition from hands-on mothering into the next phase of life, these immersive days are designed to act like a micro artist's residency. A day to reflect on our respective practices, build connections and share interdisciplinary dialogue, all within the context of mothers transitioning into a different phase of our lives.
Each of the 4 dates will work with a different element within the over-arching exploration of post hands-on mothering, these events work individually as a standalone walk-shop and as a progressional series.
WALK NO.1 ~ SAT 11th May ~ ELEMENT ~ PHYSICALITY
What does that mean to us now? How do we inhabit our bodies now that they have given so much? Or perhaps as we multi-tasked our way through the myraid of demands of our lives as mothers, we have forgotten we even have a body . . . identifying more closely with the head on a stick idea . . . Wherever you are on this journey to towards fully inhabiting your post hands-on mothering body, lets explore and unravel some of the ties that bind ~ TOGETHER!
WHEN
Gathering on Saturdays, the first in this short series is May 11th, followed by June 8th, 6th July and 11th August.
WHO
Perhaps you are coming to the end of 'hands-on' parenting, maybe you are already there, whichever it is, this period can be a challenging time for many mothers. Whether your only or youngest child is reaching 18, 21, or somewhere close, (Maximum Age 28) and you are beginning to wonder what next? Or maybe, will there even be a next? These unique day walk-shops could be for you.
WHO DEFINED ~ Birthing Mothers who identify as Artists and / or Creatives ~ Whether you are a writer, dancer, film-maker, theatre practitioner, sculptor, social-artist, photographer, designer, fashion, textiles, glass-maker, metal-worker, illustrator, painter, musician, curator or fine-artist, whatever your creative practice, if this is significant part of your life, either part or full time, then you are part of this group if your youngest child is at least 18 and at their oldest, 28.
OVERVIEW - Facilitated through the lens of ecopsychology, these explorations offer a gentle invitation into our own bodies, held within the wider body of nature herself. These walk-shops provide a micro digital holiday, being present to the here and now as we begin to investigate what post hands-on mothering might look like for ourselves.
Designed to draw together birthing mothers who identify as creative practitioners across disciplines, these walk-shops offer gentle provocations with the aim of opening up a process of dialogue on the move. Through a series of curated questions we will acknowledge the past, explore the present, and begin to imagine possible futures.
WHAT TO EXPECT ~ There will be dialogue in changing pairs, questions to explore and guide you through this curated process, small group discussion and periods of silence.
TIMING, WHEN AND WHERE ~ Each walkshop will run for 6 hours, meeting from 10.00am in the Spike Island Cafe, leaving promptly at 10.30am, and ending back at Spike Island. around 4.00pm.
PRACTICAL DETAILS OF THE WALK - For further general walk dos and don'ts please refer to the WALKS FAQ'S For further details of the individual walk you have booked, please refer to the information on your ticket confirmation and read through thoroughly, this offers a comprehensive guide for each walk on what you may need to bring etc.
A WORD ABOUT TICKETING ~ I wanted to create a ticket system that reflected the realities of many of our lives. For many Artists and Creatives, our financial circumstances wax and wane according to a myriad of variables, some seasons we may be very comfortable, some we may be juggling our cash flow as life makes a multitude of demands on our purse. To accurately reflect these realities of living a creative life there are 4 Types of Tickets on sale, designed to reflect your current and present circumstances this month, and not, just to be clear, as a statement about your status as an artist.
