About this Event
Two streets. Two very different walks.
At 2 pm in Lisbon, two streets a few metres apart can feel very different. One is in full sun. The other has shade and an easier slope. Most maps show them as the same route.
In this 30-minute session, Yousef, founder of GreenRah, shows how urban heat changes the way people walk. He uses one real Lisbon route to show the effect of:
- Sun position
- Shade from buildings and trees
- Weather
- Hills and slope
You will see a live demo of GreenRah. The app helps people compare walking routes by comfort, not only by distance.
Think of a walk you avoided.
Before you come, think of a recent walk in a European city. Maybe it was too hot, too steep or too tiring. We will use these stories to discuss what better walking guidance should look like as cities get hotter.
What you will take away
- A simple way to see how heat changes a walk at street level
- A live example of how shade, sun, weather and slope change a route
- Ideas on how data can help make cities more comfortable, accessible and walkable
- A first look at the GreenRah app, and a chance to give feedback
Who should come
Anyone who cares about cities and walking. This includes tour guides, designers, urban planners, students, mobility professionals, runners, tourists, older adults and people with accessibility needs. You do not need technical knowledge.
