Mamy przyjemność zaprosić Państwa na spotkanie autorskie z Profesorem W.J.T. Mitchellem, goszczącym w listopadzie bieżącego roku na Uniwersytecie Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu.
Spotkanie z Profesorem Mitchellem dotyczyć będzie jego dwóch najnowszych książek: jednej – wydanej w polskim tłumaczeniu przez Wydawnictwo Naukowe UMK kilka dni przed wydarzeniem – i drugiej, która ukaże się 26 grudnia 2026 roku nakładem The University of Chicago Press (https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/author/M/W/au5172682.html).
Pierwsza książka to „Mental Traveler: A Father, a Son, and a Journey through Schizophrenia”, analityczna opowieść ojca-naukowca o relacji z artystycznie uzdolnionym synem popadającym w chorobę psychiczną (w polskim tłumaczeniu tytuł brzmi „Podróżnicy. Ojciec, syn i schizofrenia”). Druga zaś to „Seeing Through Madness: Essays in Crazy Times”, powstała jako efekt współpracy ojca z synem nad wielodziedzinowym projektem na temat bliskości szaleństwa i geniuszu w sztuce. Profesor Mitchell opowie o koncepcji i zawartości tej publikacji w rozmowie z dr. hab. Dariuszem Pniewskim, prof. UMK (Wydział Humanistyczny) i dr. hab. Filipem Pręgowskim, prof. UMK (Wydział Sztuk Pięknych). Rozmowie towarzyszy promocja „Podróżników. Ojca, syna i schizofrenii”.

We are delighted to invite you to the book talk with Professor W.J.T. Mitchell, a visiting scholar at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
The meeting with Professor Mitchell will focus on his two latest books: one – published in Polish translation by the NCU Publishing House a few days before the event – and the other, which is due to be published on 26 December 2026 by The University of Chicago Press (https://press. uchicago.edu/ucp/books/author/M/W/au5172682.html).
The first book, entitled Mental Traveller: A Father, a Son, and a Journey through Schizophrenia, is an analytical account by a father, who works as a scientist, of his relationship with his artistically gifted son as he descends into mental illness. The second book, Seeing Through Madness: Essays in Crazy Times, is the result of a collaboration between father and son on a multidisciplinary project exploring the proximity of madness and genius in art. Professor Mitchell will discuss the concept and content of this publication in conversation with Prof. NCU, Dr. hab. Dariusz Pniewski (Faculty of Humanities), and Prof. NCU, Dr. hab. Filip Pręgowski (Faculty of Fine Arts). The discussion will be accompanied by the launch of the Polish Translation of Mental Traveller: A Father, a Son, and a Journey through Schizophrenia under the Polish title Podróżnicy. Ojciec, syn i schizofrenia.
The book talk will take place on 23 November in the cinema hall of the “Od Nowa” Academic Centre for Culture and the Arts at 37a Gagarina Street, at 5.00 pm. The meeting will be held in English.
