About this Event
Vox in the Stars is a truly unique musical event: audience and singers come together in the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory for a concert of evocative, celestially-inspired choral music performed under the stars, within the historic Plaskett Telescope dome.
This year’s program will feature a brand new commission by Montreal-based composer and Vox Humana alum Esther-Ruth Teel, along with other pieces that explore themes of astronomy, science, the splendour of the heavens, and our place in the cosmos, ranging from the unique intersection of Indigenous and European perspectives in Andrew Balfour’s choral music, to the mysticism of Arvo Pärt, and the clever lyrics of Elle Cordova. Conducted by Char Hodgkins and David Stratkauskas. Sponsored by the CRD Arts Development Service.
** You are invited to The Celestial Encore, a special program presented by our friends at The Centre of the Universe. Immediately following the Vox performance, the Centre of the Universe is offering an astronomy talk, a planetarium show, and sky viewing through our telescopes if the weather permits.
Exclusively for ticket holders of Vox in the Stars. This program will be available to ticket holders online and before and after the choir performance.
