Croydon Together Winter Night Shelter & Day Centre training
Would you like to volunteer at our Winter Night shelter or the new Day Centre for the homeless in Croydon? This year we have two important projects supporting people sleeping rough in the borough:
- The Winter Night Shelter, open every day at a local church in West Croydon. This project run last winter too and it is organised by a group of local voluntary and faith organisations wanting to provide local homeless people with a warm place to sleep at night, some hot food and showering facilities. It will be open between 23/11/2026 and March/April 2027.
- The new Day Centre on London Road, which will be open every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between 9am to 12pm (open access) for anyone sleeping rough or at risk of being homeless to get advice on next steps. This is a collaboration between 4 charities: Croydon Voluntary Action, Spires, CAYSH and the West Croydon Baptist Church. It will offer a warm breakfast, showers and laundry facilities.
Come to the induction for potential volunteers delivered by the Winter Night Shelter co-ordinator Helen-Marie Fraher and hear more about the two initiatives! You will hear about the many roles available in both settings including:
- Helping to cook hot nutritious meals
- Welcoming guests, socialising and chatting
- Supporting guests to connect with local services and stakeholder
- Setting up the space for the night (winter night shelter)
- Overnight volunteers helping guest to have a good safe night sleep (winter night shelter - concierge on site too)

There will be a break in the middle for coffee etc.
If any wishing to volunteer, this training is mandatory.
The entrance to the church building will be from Whitehorse Road and down the slope
At the side of the church. A 157 bus gets you to the church.
