About this Event
Hatchet Training – November 14th from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM.
Hatchet throwing is our newest addition to our target sports line up at GSSEF. Hatchet throwing is approved for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. During this training, you will learn how to safely facilitate hatchet throwing for older Girl Scouts and adults as you learn the fundamentals of the sport, how to properly handle and throw hatchets, how to play and score the game as well as how to reserve the hatchet range for your troop/group.
What to wear: Closed toe shoes with socks and weather-appropriate clothing. Please do not wear dangling clothing or earrings while participating in hatchet throwing.
What to bring: packed lunch and snacks, refillable water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, hat/sunglasses, and a small backpack/bag to carry your things in.
This council-specific training is required to facilitate Hatchet Throwing with Girl Scouts at Camp Nocatee. You will receive a training card signed by the instructor upon successfully completing the training. If you already have a GSSEF Training Card, please bring it with you so the instructor can add it to your existing trainings.
You will receive a printed copy of the Hatchet Throwing Manual at the training.
Adult Try-It: Friendsgiving - November 14th at 6:00 PM through November 15th at 4:00 PM.
Grab your friends and get outdoors at Camp Nocatee for our first ever Adult Try-It: Friendsgiving! Spend a night enjoying Camp Nocatee with other adult volunteers and then prepare a Friendsgiving Feast over the campfire with us Sunday. We will be using all of our outdoor cooking skills to make a Turkey in a Trashcan as well as all
the yummy Friendsgiving sides camp style. While we wait for it to cook, we will go on a foraging hike to find some of our native, edible plants as well as visiting the hatchet range for a session of hatchet throwing.
Dinner will not be provided on Saturday. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided on Sunday.
All participants will receive an Adult Try-It patch and Camp Nocatee rocker.
A packing list will be sent out in the program confirmation the week of the program.
All participants must wear closed toe shoes with socks as well as shirts that cover the shoulders and midriff according to camp rules.
*If you register for the combo package of both Hatchet Training and Adult Try-It: Friendsgiving, you will be able to leave camp between the two events to get dinner or remain on property with the other adults registered for both.*
Registration will close on November 8th, 2026.
