About this Event
Voices of Women Farmers on the Hill: A Love Story
A Celebration of the International Year of the Woman Farmer
Wednesday, December 9, 2026 | 9:00 AM | Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.
Presented by Food Tank, National Geographic, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
What happens when we invite farmers to Capitol Hill, not to testify about agricultural policy, but to tell us about the people they love, the families they've raised, and the communities they call home?
Join Food Tank, National Geographic, and FAO for a special Capitol Hill breakfast celebrating the International Year of the Woman Farmer through Voices of Women Farmers: A Love Story.
Building on the success of Food Tank's growing farmer storytelling series, which has brought deeply personal stories from farms across the country to stages at Climate Week NYC, Sundance, SXSW, and beyond, this special performance brings the voices of women farmers directly to the halls of Congress.
These aren't traditional speeches or panel discussions. Each farmer has spent hours sharing stories about her life, family, and relationship with the land. Through interviews, writing, and rehearsals, those conversations become intimate, moving performances told by the farmers themselves.
For one morning, we're bringing Republicans and Democrats, policymakers, agricultural leaders, and advocates together around something that too often gets lost in conversations about food and farming: the people behind the food we eat.
Featured Farmer Storytellers
Annie Watson — Organic Dairy Farmer, Sheepscot Valley Farm and Stonyfield Producer, Maine
Amy Bruch — Sixth-Generation Organic Farmer and President, Cyclone Farms, Nebraska
Gale Livingston — Founder, Deep Roots Farm and Member, Black Farmers Coalition, Maryland
Additional farmer storytellers and special guests will be announced soon.
As the world prepares to celebrate the International Year of the Woman Farmer in 2026, this breakfast offers an opportunity to recognize the women who feed our communities, care for the land, and help shape the future of agriculture.
Come for breakfast. Leave with a deeper understanding of the farmers whose lives and stories deserve to be heard.
This event is part of the 2nd Annual Food and Agriculture Policy Week, presented by Food Tank, the Global Food Institute at George Washington University, José Andrés, the Culinary Institute of America, and the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation.
