About this Event
About La Rioja Alta, S.A.
Founded in 1890 by five local grape-growing families in Haro, the historic heart of Rioja, La Rioja Alta merged in 1904 with a winery owned by Alfredo Ardanza — a union still honoured today in the names of its two flagship Gran Reservas, 890 and 904, each named for its founding year with the first digit quietly dropped so no one mistakes it for a vintage. More than 130 years on, the house remains one of the region's great traditionalists: patient, unhurried winemaking across 425 hectares of estate vineyards, built for cellars that reward people who can wait.
This evening, that patience comes to you directly. Diego Lasheras, who oversees La Rioja Alta's exports and national accounts across Asia-Pacific, joins us in person to walk through four of the house's defining wines — from the structured, age-worthy Gran Reserva 904 to the lighter, more immediate charm of Viña Alberdi. Expect the kind of context you don't get from a tasting note: what each wine is built to do, how it's changed (or deliberately hasn't) over the decades, and why Rioja traditionalists still do things the slow way.
