About this Event
Join experienced tutors and members from The Embroiderers’ Guild Queensland to learn simple techniques, so you can visibly mend your clothes and keep them in circulation.
What’s visible mending? It’s not just a technique for adorning or repairing clothes; it’s a movement that goes against fast fashion. It’s a way to slow things down and put creativity in your hands, honouring the materials and the maker of the garment and transforming it into something new and unique.
Visible mending can be about fun, making a statement or just developing ‘mendfulness' - getting out of our minds and into doing something with our hands.
Hosted in the Gladys Mary Studio, you can choose between a morning or an afternoon session. Each is limited to just 16 participants, facilitated by experienced Guild tutors and members. This is a hands-on experience that focuses on skill-sharing. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get feedback.
What you'll learn:
Simple techniques such as weaving, applique, reverse applique & boro-style stitching will enable you to have fun repairing anything from woollen jumpers to hard-wearing denim.
What’s included:
🪡 Each participant receives their own take-home kit including threads, needles, buttons and fabric swatches for experimentation.
✂️ Additional resources such as hoops, pins and scissors will be provided during the session.
🎓 2-hour skill-sharing session with Embroiderers’ Guild Queensland tutors and members.
Choose a Session:
We have two sessions available on Saturday, 24th October.
Morning session: 10am - 12pm
Afternoon session: 1:30pm - 3:30pm
Limited to 16 participants per session.
Each session is individually ticketed, so choose your preferred time.
Where:
Hosted in the Gladys Mary Studio, you will be surrounded by The Nest Community's Heritage Collection, situated right next door to The Nest Haberdashery, a treasure trove of reclaimed sewing resources.

Terms and conditions
- We require a minimum of 3 attendees per session for them to go ahead. If this minimum number isn't met, we can reschedule you or give a full refund.
- If you wish to cancel more than 7 days before the event, we will issue a full refund.
- Cancellation with less than 7 days' notice will not be refunded. We are happy to transfer bookings to other people.
- Failure to attend on the day of the event will result in a loss of your class fee.
- Each attendee must purchase a ticket to attend.
- This event is designed for individuals aged 15 and older.
