About this Event
To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Nhân Văn–Giai Phẩm Movement, the Vietnamese Heritage Museum (VHM), in collaboration with the US–Vietnam Research Center at the University of Oregon and the Center for Southeast Asia Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, is pleased to present a special symposium and exhibition exploring this pivotal chapter in modern Vietnamese history and its enduring intellectual, cultural, and political legacy.
The Nhân Văn–Giai Phẩm movement remains a defining moment in Vietnam's intellectual, cultural, and political history. Seventy years later, its questions concerning freedom of expression, artistic independence, and the relationship between intellectuals and society continue to resonate across generations and communities.
Through scholarly discussions and historical exhibitions, this event seeks to revisit the movement's origins, examine its historical significance, and reflect on its enduring legacy in Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora.
