Everyone is welcome to attend in honor our country’s veterans’ past and present at this year’s Veterans Day Observance on Tuesday, November 11, 2026 at Noon at the Charles F. Dodge City Center Memorial Park. The ceremony, to honor those who have kept us safe, features the presentation of colors, musical performances and guest speakers.
Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1918. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day.
The Honoring Veterans Portrait Project will be displayed during the ceremony. The Honoring Veterans Portrait Project is a curated exhibition highlighting local Veterans and their stories relating to their diversity, heritage, and culture during their military service and beyond. Each Veteran is asked poignant questions, and their responses are recorded and converted into stories. Along with their stories, each participant has a professional portrait taken to be displayed in this exhibition.
Hot dogs and refreshments will be served immediately after the ceremony. FREE admission. All ages welcome.
