About this Event
In September, we'll discuss Ienna's favorite poetry collection of the year, Affidavit by Starr Davis—a simultaneously subversive and poignant collection that transforms legal form for the poetic form, reminding us of the very real lives weighed within the courtroom.
We'll begin each meeting by introducing ourselves to each other and reading 1-2 poems together, then use the remaining time for reflection and sharing.
Though it's not necessary to read the book to attend, it is encouraged for lively discussion. Get 10% off Affidavit with promo code BOOKCLUB online or by mentioning the book club at in-store checkout!
About Affidavit
Affidavit captures the passionate intensity of motherhood and custody battles within the constraining shape of bureaucratic legal forms. Presenting us with the horrors of incarceration and the wonders of birth, these poems testify to the power of parental love even amidst the suffocating apparatuses of the courtroom. Formally and emotionally complex, Affidavit pays attention to what happens when private lives are forced into public arenas of judgement.
