Projekt Danubea fotografa Alana Hyžu sleduje tok Dunaja od jeho prameňa až po ústie do Čierneho mora. Rieka však nie je jeho hlavným objektom – stáva sa skôr kulisou pre osobnú a univerzálnu výpoveď o človeku. Hyža sa sústreďuje na ľudí žijúcich v povodí rieky, často na jej okrajoch a v hraničných situáciách. Sú to jednotlivci, ktorí sa vymykajú spoločenským normám, žijú v neistých či premenlivých podmienkach a nachádzajú v nich vlastný priestor a bezpečie. Autor prostredníctvom analógovej veľkoformátovej fotografie vytvára obraz Dunaja, ktorý nie je topografickým ani ekologickým dokumentom. Rieka sa objavuje často len v náznaku, zatiaľ čo do popredia vystupuje človek, jeho krehkosť, odlišnosť a vnútorný svet. Danubea je tak úvahou o hraniciach, identite a podstate človeka.

Alan Hyža’s project Danubea follows the course of the Danube from its source to its mouth into the Black Sea. The river itself, however, is not the main subject of the work; rather, it becomes a setting for a personal and universal reflection on the human condition. Hyža focuses on people living in the river’s basin, often on its margins and in situations of uncertainty or transition. These are individuals who exist outside social norms, inhabit unstable or changing environments, and find their own sense of space and security within them. Using large-format analogue photography, Hyža creates an image of the Danube that is neither topographical nor ecological. The river often appears only as a subtle presence, while the focus shifts towards the individual, their vulnerability, difference, and inner world. Danubea thus becomes a reflection on boundaries, identity, and what lies at the core of being human.
The exhibition will run until November 1, 2026.
