The Louisville Orchestra opens the 26–27 Classics season with Verdi’s “Requiem”, a colossal piece known for its emotional range and striking contrasts. Written for orchestra, chorus, and soloists, the music moves between moments of quiet reflection and sweeping intensity.
Listeners will hear explosive choral passages alongside intimate, lyrical writing, creating a sense of drama that feels both grand and deeply personal. Some sections are powerful and urgent, while others are calm, tender, and searching, allowing the music to speak to a wide range of emotions without requiring any prior knowledge.
Live, its impact is physical. You feel the chorus rise, the orchestra surge, and the shared silence of the room when the music holds its breath. Under the direction of Teddy Abrams, this season-opening concert sets the tone for a Classics series centered on connection, depth, and the experience of coming together through music.
This performance is part of our Coffee Series of concerts. The Baird Coffee Series brings the power of our Classics concerts to Friday matinees, offering a shorter, intermission free performance that fits easily into your day. Each program features a thoughtfully curated version of our evening repertoire, paired with complimentary Heine Brothers Coffee.
A favorite among seniors, students, professionals and groups, the Coffee Series has become a welcoming community tradition, an easy way to gather, connect, and experience great music together before the weekend begins.
