Big Pink Music was formed to support our local music community, and no entity in the 757 has done this longer or better than Veer Magazine. When we asked Jeff Maisey to partner with us and choose the performers to play our 10th anniversary in-the-round, he jumped at the chance. Jeff writes "After looking at the list of past performers — players such as Karl Werne, Seth Stainback, Tret Fure, Lewis McGehee, Dustin Furlow, Julie Clark, Anthony Rosano, Roberta Lea, Rob Oliver, Mike Aiken, and others — I wanted to bring in singer/songwriters comparable, but who had never played the venue or format in the past. For this occasion, on Sunday, October 11 starting at 4:00 PM, we’ll present David Middleton of Waxing Poetics, popular contemporary country artist Celeste Kellogg, rocker Allen Hudson, and big production minded Ben Phelps." We're grateful Veer's support and exited to have these four new local artists (see bios below) play Hampton’s Victorian Station, the region’s only member-supported listening room.
What is Big Pink Music?
Big Pink Music is a nonprofit of members who will pay an annual membership fee ranging from $125 to $500 to support performances by local musicians. In return, they will receive benefits including reduced ticket prices, invitations to private events, and private use of the venue.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS....
Allen Hudson is a singer-songwriter from Portsmouth, Virginia. He’s spent the last four years fronting Allen Hudson and the Halfmoons, one of Virginia’s best alternative bands. In that time, he’s opened for Spin Doctors, Dada, Eric Hutchinson, Eddie 9V, Illiterate Light, and Norfolk’s own Waxing Poetics. Sonically, Hudson’s music exists somewhere between The Killers and The Black Crowes, blending straight-to-tape rock and roll, new wave and power pop - all with a hint of southern charm.
Ben Phelps is a veteran singer songwriter from Virginia with 5 solo albums to his credit. He resides in Smithfield where he lives with his bustling family in a crazy old historic haunted house. In addition to his solo work he fronts the Ben Phelps Project, a 5-piece band that has played regionally since 2001 and has released 3 albums. The BPP has won several local and regional music awards including Album of The Year for “Wake Up The Guards” as well as Social Justice Song of The Year for “Where Were You When.” The band has received local and regional radio play along with opening appearances with BB King, Buddy Guy, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Carbon Leaf, Cowboy Mouth, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Cracker, Pat McGee, Colbie Callait, and several others.
Celeste Kellogg is a native of Smithfield, VA and got her start early in church and school choirs and singing along with her Dad to Alabama, James Taylor and The Eagles. At the age of 12 she auditioned for a Disney Pop Group called RD7. It was there she opened for Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Raven, The Cheetah Girls and Kelly Clarkson. Later Celeste would go on to film an independent movie titled Much Ado About Middle School, which won 4 Dove Awards. While Celeste continued to pursue acting opportunities, her love has always remained in music, where she has now opened for Scotty McCreery, Raelynn, Eric Paslay, Easton Corbin, Brett Eldridge, LeAnn Rimes, Jeffrey Steele, Canaan Smith and Cowboy Troy. Celeste has had the honor of winning the Nashville Universe Rising Star Award in 2016. In 2018 she would capture the Nashville Universe Female Vocalist of the Year award. She has released two singles to Country Radio, "Country Swagger" and "There’s a Beach Somewhere." Both singles have charted on the Music Row Country Airplay Charts out of Nashville and were also featured on CMT’s Spotify playlists The Round Up & Next Women of Country Music, garnering over a million streams.
David Middleton is an alternative-rock singer and songwriter from Virginia. Born and raised in Norfolk, he has also lived in New York and New Jersey. David is the former lead vocalist for the well-known Norfolk band Waxing Poetics, who put the city on the map in the blossoming 80s mid-Atlantic punk and underground music scene. They earned a loyal following, toured the mid-Atlantic, and were heard on local and national radio, even debuting their first video “If You Knew Sushi” on MTV’s “120 Minutes.” Recently David has collaborated with 757 artist Allen Hudson on a re-imagining of the Poetics’ classic, “Manakin Moon.” He is currently performing with his new band, The Liberaces.
