Renowned Philadelphia-based ensemble Variant 6 presents a concert of virtuosic vocal chamber music for five voices from Renaissance classics, to 20th Century gems, to pieces written in the last decade. Known for their “astonishing tonal focus, pinpoint intonation, subtlety of expression and sheer vocal virtuosity” (Gramophone), this ensemble will highlight the extent of possibilities available to one-on-a-part voices, featuring the music of Claudio Monteverdi, Maurice Ravel, Benjamin Britten, Herbert Howells, and living composers Benjamin C.S. Boyle, David Shapiro, Ted Hearne, and Gabriel Jackson.

Variant 6 is a flexible-roster, artist-led vocal chamber music ensemble that explores the expressive potential of the human voice through music that is at once virtuosic, poignant, and approachable. Composed of artists with a diverse set of skills and a wide range of expertise, we seek out repertoire that embodies this potential. We collaborate with artists of many disciplines, creating refreshing interpretations of music of the past and innovative premieres of new works.
