About this Event
Architect, author, and Beverly Shores resident, Naomi Pollock, presents a talk inspired by her new book, Vanishing Japan: Modern Architecture, Gone But Not Forgotten, exploring challenges faced in preserving Japan’s modern architecture and efforts to document endangered structures before they are lost. The talk highlights several architectural masterpieces lost and threatened and provides cultural context for the motivations to both save and demolish. As part of the talk, Blake Swihart of Indiana Landmarks offers perspective on parallel threats to modern structures in the United States and northwest Indiana.
Pollock’s book will be available for purchase onsite before and after the talk thanks to local bookseller The Press.
Advance registration recommended. Linwood House, located on the campus of Valparaiso University and home to Indiana Landmarks’ Northwest Field Office, is an accessible venue.
