Join us on 7th May for an exciting wine tasting dinner featuring Bodega Garzón Balasto from Maldonado, Uruguay. The evening will showcase a curated selection of wines from Bodega Garzón, thoughtfully paired with a specially designed menu by the Lore of the Land kitchen team.Bodega Garzón is a family-owned winery located in Maldonado on Uruguay’s Atlantic coast. Over the past decade, it has led the way in developing high-quality viticulture in the region, earning a reputation as a benchmark for premium Uruguayan wines. This achievement was further recognised in 2025 when it was ranked fifth in the World’s 50 Best Vineyards list, which praised the winery for “leading a renaissance in Uruguayan wine.”The Winery Set along natural terraces and integrated into the surrounding hillsides, the winery adopts a tiered layout that harnesses gravity to craft wines of exceptional quality. Its thoughtfully designed facilities optimize energy efficiency while producing renewable power through wind and solar (photovoltaic) systems. With a capacity of 2.2 million liters, the building is the first winery outside North America to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, meeting the rigorous standards established by the United States Green Building Council. Notably, this certification applies to the entire complex, regardless of function—an unprecedented achievement globally. The VineyardsSituated near Uruguay’s Atlantic coastline and about 160 meters above sea level, the vineyard is rooted in an exceptional natural setting that gives the grapes a distinctive and unmistakable character. Combined with a mild climate and organic farming practices, these conditions ensure that each wine expresses the true essence of the Garzón terroir. The geology of the Garzón region is part of the ancient Crystalline Basement, responsible for some of the oldest soils on Earth, formed over 2.5 billion years ago. Over time, the gradual breakdown of these rocks has created a unique, mineral-rich soil known as ballast, ideal for viticulture.Another defining feature of this terroir is the nearby Atlantic Ocean, just 18 kilometers away. Its constant, gentle breezes sweep across the vineyards, contributing freshness and balance that are reflected in the character of the wines.
