Join us for an evening with Tomii Takashi, a woodworker and urushi artist based in Oguni, Niigata, as part of our ongoing Unhurried Couch Sessions.
This session offers a closer look at Tomii-san’s journey into making, from his early beginnings to the practice he has built over the years. He’ll share about his approach to wood and urushi, the rhythms of working in Oguni, and the relationships and experiences that continue to shape the way he works.
Beyond his own studio practice, we’ll also hear about his partnership with VAWA, his experience welcoming international students into his workshop, and the role that teaching, exchange and collaboration play in his life as a maker.
The evening will be kept conversational, with time for a Q&A at the end, so feel free to come with questions or simply listen along.
We’ll also be sharing a small preview of works from Tomii-san’s upcoming solo showcase at Inner Tea House, taking place that same weekend.
