About this Event
Join us for a relaxed session about ADHD, executive functioning, and neurodiversity.
We are hearing a lot in the media at the moment about ADHD and people's perceptions of what it is and whether it is overdiagnosed, but there is nothing about what it is, what is happening and what to do about it.
In this workshop, Vicky intends to take you on a journey of understanding. Parents and carers of children with ADHD have extra challenges, and it is hoped to bring some context to those challenges so that you, as a parent, grandparent, carer or kin, understand what is happening and why.
In turn, you will understand more about executive functioning and learn what does and doesn't work.
This session seeks to dispel common misconceptions, clarifying that ADHD is a complex neurological difference rather than a simple behavioural issue. It blends personal lived experience with insights to help parents and carers better understand and support neurodivergent individuals.
The presentation is structured around several key themes:
- An introduction to ADHD
- Debunking ADHD Myths
- Overview of Neurodiversity/Neurodivergence
- Dopamine
- The role of Executive Functioning and the Brain
- The Importance of Diagnosis and Strategy & what can come first
- Positives and Strengths
- Q&A
- Way forward
