Ever leave a healthcare visit thinking, “Wait… what just happened?” Or wish you had asked a question or spoken up when something wasn’t clear?
Understand. Ask. Advocate. is a free, in-person community class designed to give you practical tools to feel more prepared for healthcare visits and take a more active role in healthcare conversations. The class is taught by a physician assistant with experience on both sides of healthcare—as a provider and a patient. Everyone who attends receives a free playbook and take-home tools to use at future healthcare visits.
What You’ll Learn
We’ll cover simple, practical ways to:
- Prepare for healthcare visits
- Decide what questions you want to ask
- Speak up when something isn’t clear
- Ask about options, benefits, and risks
- Clarify the plan and what comes next
- Use simple tools to help you remember and organize important information
Who This Class Is For
This class may be especially helpful if you:
- Feel anxious, rushed, or overwhelmed during healthcare visits
- Aren’t always sure what questions to ask
- Want to feel more comfortable speaking up
- Sometimes leave appointments unsure about what comes next
- Help a family member or loved one navigate their healthcare
- Simply want to be more prepared for future healthcare visits
No healthcare knowledge or experience is needed.

The class is completely free.
