Bold. Bilingual. Beautifully Māori. An extraordinary theatrical experience that will shimmer in your bones and ignite the fire within.
Tāne Rore is a critically acclaimed bilingual theatre work inspired by the Māori atua of performing arts that weaves together haka, waiata, poetry, movement and heartfelt storytelling in a theatrical experience unlike any other.
Performed by a phenomenally talented all-Māori cast including Poroaki Merritt-McDonald, Luke Orbell, Tohu Edwards, Nātana Mika and Joseph Rehu-Hahunga, Tāne Rore explores the many facets of Māori identity - belonging, masculinity, culture and legacy through an authentic Māori lens. Rich with humour, heart and humanity, the production invites audiences into stories that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Raw, uplifting and visually striking, Tāne Rore is more than a performance, it is a celebration that connects generations, honours whakapapa, and reinvigorates contemporary theatre in Aotearoa.
Witness one of Aotearoa's most compelling new Māori theatre works by this exciting Tauranga-based collective.
“Tāne Rore shatters stereotypes, portraying Māori men as multifaceted and deeply complex, far beyond the caricatures often seen in mainstream media, positive messages that resonate far and wide.” – Theatreview
