Part of , co-presented by Bloc Projects and Platform Asia, TYRYX (featuring artist Florence To) is a live sonic activation of the exhibition's wood-and-metal sculptures via synthesised control signals.
The programme centres on the artist’s longstanding interest in vocalisation. Influenced by the avian syrinx, the vocal organ through which birds produce sound, Other. Absence and Making Public has grown into a wider enquiry about movement and perception. Tying together field observation, recordings and objects gathered from a research trip in Palestine, the project considers what technical systems can detect and make visible; what they overlook; and how human and more-than-human lives encounter the same environments differently.
About TYRYX
TYRYX is a sound-based project by Florence To, an artist, researcher and director of Hong Kong diasporic heritage. They create acoustic scenographies and audiovisual installations with an emphasis on architectural spatial design. They have established residencies and commissions with the Berliner Festspiele, STRP Eindhoven, Mass MoCA in Massachusetts, EMPAC (Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center) in New York and The Spatialization and Auditory Display Environment [SpADE] in Limerick. Florence’s creative endeavours are founded on the significance of listening as a valuable tool for aligning with and establishing deeper connections with the worlds we occupy, particularly during a period of ecological upheaval.

The performance will start promptly at 5pm. Latecomers are welcome but please arrive on time if you can.
