Join us for an evening of history that's definitely not what you learned in high school! Authors of historical fiction and alternate history Jillian Laine, Molly Greeley, and Ashlee Cowles will be chatting about what makes these genres so unique, how they choose what history to include and what to leave out, the joys of creative anachronism, and so much more. The evening will conclude with book signings by all three authors! This event is free and open to the public, no ticket required.
About the authors:
Ashlee Cowles is the author of several novels for young adults and adults. Her YA debut received a 2017 Colorado Book Award, and she now has the joy of co-authoring epic historical fiction with her childhood best friend as A.D. Rhine, a partnership that has resulted in the Trojan War duology Horses of Fire and Daughters of Bronze (Dutton, 2023 and 2024), as well as the forthcoming Rubble Women (Lake Union, 2027). Following a nomadic upbringing, she studied medieval history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and now resides in Traverse City with her husband, two children, and a fierce huntress cat named Freya.
Though Molly Greeley earned a degree in English from Michigan State University, she spent a number of years working in cafes, law offices, and for insurance newspapers before writing her first novel. Her work has been called "Intricate, masterly, and delightfully imaginative" (Library Journal), "Exquisite" (Austenesque Reviews), and "Nuanced" with a "hint of D.H. Lawrence" (BBC Culture). Her books have been Indie Next picks and have received starred reviews from Booklist and Library Journal. Molly lives in northern Michigan with her husband and three children, and can often be found with her laptop at local coffee shops.
Jillian Laine is an author and journalist. She has written multiple children's books and has worked as an acquisitions editor, book festival director, and literary award judge. She and her husband live with their pride of cats in the Great Lakes State. Henry Tudor Must Die is her first novel.
