About this Event
Join us as we walk the trails near the Des Plaines River. We'll keep our eyes open while we walk through the woods to check for any mushrooms or other fungi.
The group will gather at Grove #2 and walk the unpaved trail for some nice autumnal views. Take in some crisp fall air and enjoy the remaining days of the fall season with others who enjoy nature. There will likely be deer grazing within view and waterfowl navigating the river as well.
Location: Schiller Woods Grove #2

Difficulty level: This hike will be on both unpaved and paved paths and move at a moderate pace. You may need to navigate small obstacles on the path in some places.
Parking/Meeting location: Meet us at Grove 2 near the picnic shelter off of the grove's parking area. When you enter the woods from Irving Park Road, be sure to turn left at the fork in the road just inside the entrance.
Meet your Volunteer Guide: Diane has a lifelong interest in nature. She completed the University of Illinois Master Naturalist program in 2023 and is a certified seed collector for Cook County Forest Preserves. An avid hiker, she has formed and led walking groups for 15+ years.
What to Wear and Bring: Water, sun protection, a hat, and sturdy walking shoes/boots. Lightweight clothing with long sleeves and long pants is ideal to protect against insects along with repellent. An additional layer, such as a light jacket, is advised. Some of the trail is in shaded areas that can be cool on some days.
