🎶 Tales & Tunes presents The Columbus Mandolin Orchestra Honors Hoosier Mandolinist John Goodin 🎶Join us for Tunes & Tales, a new series at the Jefferson County History & Art Center that brings history to life through music, storytelling, and conversation. More than a lecture and more than a concert, each program explores fascinating stories from our region and across Indiana through live performances and engaging discussion.
This program features the Columbus Mandolin Orchestra celebrating the music of Hoosier native John Goodin with selections from his vast library. Goodin was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in 1951, attended high school in Clarksville, and graduated from Indiana University. His career transported him to Iowa, but his midwestern roots are evident in his music. Goodin derived inspiration from the sweeping landscapes and rousing rivers of the Midwest.
Goodin was a founding member of the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra. Goodin was known for his generosity. He offered his compositions for free, allowing orchestras like the Columbus and Louisville Mandolin Orchestras to thrive.
Goodin's legacy lives on through his Mandotopia web site, his CDs, instructional books, classical arrangements, and most importantly--through his ability to make mandolin music accessible to players and audiences.
