Light is one of the most powerful tools an artist can use—and in this focused studio seminar, you’ll learn how to make it work for you. Through demonstrations and individual instruction, Carolyn will guide you in understanding how value, color, edges, and atmosphere come together to create convincing light and depth. Working from observation, you’ll complete a painting while exploring how light transforms a subject and gives a composition its sense of space and mood. This seminar is designed to help artists strengthen their visual decision‑making and build confidence in capturing luminous, expressive scenes.
A supportive environment, clear instruction, and hands-on practice make this workshop ideal for artists looking to deepen their understanding of how light shapes every part of a painting. All supplies are included, so you can simply show up ready to paint.
A quick note about classroom etiquette: phones may absolutely be used for visual reference, but please silence calls and notifications. This is a focused, art-centered workshop, and we ask that conversations remain rooted in painting and creative exploration so that everyone can stay engaged and inspired.
NOTE: For all administrative questions—such as registration issues, cancellations, or workshop attendance—please contact Arlene’s directly. Instructors are not responsible for handling these matters. You can reach us at [email protected] or call during store hours at (518) 482-8881.
Our courses are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
