What does a manager actually do?
Most managers are promoted for being great at the work, then handed a team and a to-do list. Nobody explains the job: your primary responsibility is developing others.
This session is a practical look at the manager’s role and what it means in daily practice. You’ll leave with tools you can use in your next 1:1.
What you’ll walk away with
- A clearer picture of the job. What’s yours to own as a manager, and what isn’t.
- A career development toolkit. How a good job description, honest performance reviews, and visible career paths work together so your people know where they’re headed.
- A healthier way to think about people leaving. The common reasons people go, and why helping a team member land a better opportunity can be a mark of strong leadership, not a failure.
- Peer perspective from other Tucson leaders working through the same questions.
Who it’s for
Team leads, supervisors, managers, directors, and VPs in any industry, whether you’re new to the role or years in.
What to expect
Short framework, real discussion, no sales pitch.
Your host
Michael Jesse is a professionally trained coach (Co-Active Training Institute) and a former engineering leader who spent two decades building and leading teams. His belief: great leaders ask more and tell less.
