Introduce your students to a real-life hero who led more than 300 people from slavery to freedom, served the Union Army during the Civil War, and became a powerful voice in the fight for women’s suffrage.
Born into slavery, Harriet Tubman knew from a young age that she had to be free. After multiple escape attempts, she finally reached the North—but her journey was only just beginning.
Harriet returned to the South time and again, guiding others to freedom through the Underground Railroad. She later served as a nurse and spy for the Union Army and, after the war, continued her advocacy as a leader in the movement for women’s voting rights.
This inspiring story highlights courage, leadership, and the enduring fight for freedom and equality.
