Tuba Skinny started busking on the street corners of New Orleans' French Quarter and built a worldwide following without ever leaving the sidewalk behind. Eight musicians playing early jazz, country blues, ragtime, spirituals, and New Orleans R&B — drawn from recordings by Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Bessie Smith, and artists most people have never heard of but will want to. Twelve albums. World tours. They still go back to the street because, as cornetist Shaye Cohn puts it, the music stays honest when it stays open to everyone.
Tickets at thecenterforthearts.org.
On sale to the public Friday, May 22 at 10:00 AM.
