Quarterstaff Syllabus:
In our Quarterstaff class we will delve into the many functional and extremely versatile techniques which have engrained the Quarterstaff into European folklore and history.
The classes will teach the practitioner how to coordinate their body and weapon in both attacking and defensive situations.
This is done through learning correct footwork, strikes, guards, parries and counter attacks whilst understanding how to manage range, opponents and leverage. We will also blend into the close quarters aspect of combat associated with Quarterstaff such as throws, takedowns and grappling to form a complete combat system.
Once fundamentals are mastered students can venture into polearms, exploring the Spear and Halberd systems which were proven on battlefields across Europe. This will further enhance your reflexes, timing and skills acquired to build a most formidable warrior.
Stick Fighting Syllabus:
Our Stick Fighting class focuses on the application of single stick and the many varied associated combat systems from different cultures across Europe.
Much more than just a training weapon the syllabus will teach the practitioner how to use the single stick’s numerous techniques and applications to attack, defend, disarm and debilitate their opponent. Through drills, partner work and the exhilaration of controlled and free sparring (optional) the student will learn the practical skills required as well as the governing principles and practices of fencing to allow them to discover a true fighting art. Due to the closer range nature of this system you will also learn effective hand to hand combat which can be utilized in conjunction with the weapon or in unarmed situations.
As skills, confidence and abilities are mastered the experience can be further amplified through the addition of double stick / duel wielding to ensure there is also something more to be mastered and the strategic and neural focus required keeps you engaged to ensure you move with purpose as a true combatant.
