Maryville College will be presenting Trillium and Friends on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 7:30 pm in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
Trillium, a piano trio consisting of violin, cello, and piano, will be joined by John Wesley Wright, tenor, Shelley Maddox, soprano, and Kristin Humphrey, clarinet.
The program will honor the pending 200th anniversary of the death of Franz Schubert. An enormously prolific composer, his friends enjoyed organizing Schubertiades, house parties featuring his chamber music and songs, often freshly composed. Our program will be a modern day Schubertiade featuring solo piano, solo songs, a vocal duet, voice and clarinet, and his E-flat Piano Trio.
Trillium, now celebrating fourteen years, has enjoyed playing for enthusiastic audiences from Maryland to North Dakota, Virginia, and North Carolina, in addition to numerous performances in Blount, Knox, and Anderson counties.
John Wesley Wright, D.M.A. & tenor, is known for his soulful interpretations
of music from baroque to Broadway. Holding degrees from Maryville College (‘87) and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Wright has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Japan including currently as a core member of the American Spiritual Ensemble. A native of Rome, GA, Wright has gleaned top prizes and recognition from the American Traditions Competition, Metropolitan Opera National Council, and the International Schubert Competition. Dr. Wright is professor of voice at Salisbury University on the Eastern Shore of MD.
Shelley Maddox, soprano, earned degrees in vocal performance and pedagogy from Maryville College and East Carolina University. She was a voice instructor at Chowan University for 8 years while residing in North Carolina. Maddox currently works as the Senior Business Manager for a nonprofit organization during the day, enjoys singing in several Maryville choral ensembles, and is a frequent recitalist across the southeast.
Kristin Humphrey is a clarinetist, educator, music industry professional, and active community performer based in East Tennessee. She is dedicated to guiding young musicians, whose accomplishments include All-State participation and scholarship awards, while fostering a lifelong appreciation for music. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Industry from Middle Tennessee State University.
Alicia Randisi-Hooker, cellist, has performed throughout the United
States and Europe. Her students have won prizes, scholarships, and
competitions both nationally and internationally. Believing that music
can educate the whole child, enriching whole lifetimes, she also spends
countless hours in community outreach to advocate for music education
and chamber music performance.
Kari Lapins, violin, moved to Knoxville from Flagstaff, Arizona, in 2016. Mrs. Lapins holds a Master of Music in Suzuki Pedagogy and Violin Performance from Northern Arizona University and a Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts Management from Columbia College Chicago. She is deeply involved with Celtic Arts as well as Music Mind Games. She is currently a member of the Oak Ridge Symphony, Bryan Symphony, and Symphony of the Mountains.
Robert Bonham, pianist, is Professor Emeritus from Maryville College and a recipient of the Maryville College Outstanding Teacher Award. He presents a variety of workshops nationally to enhance wellness and performance. He also enjoys leading groups to explore India or sail the Greek seas.
