You've seen big trees. You've seen small trees. You've seen tons of oaks and maples. But have you ever met a tree stump older than the dinosaurs?Join us during Lexington Tree Week for a one-of-a-kind talk about KGS’s favorite fossilized lycopod tree stump. Nothing says a wild Thursday night like hearing about the Whitfield Stump's 300-million-year story.
We'll peel back the bark (figuratively) and dig into:
⦁ Where this stump came from
⦁ How it go here
⦁ What "natural cast" means
⦁ What the stump tell us about Pennsylvanian period swamp forests
⦁ And a funny retelling of a question asked by a UK student
Who should come:
⦁ Anyone curious about geology, fossils, or very, very, very old trees
When and where:
⦁ October 15, 5:30 p.m., outside of the Mining and Mineral Resources Building on the University of Kentucky's campus, 310 Columbia Avenue, Lexington, KY 40506
What about campus parking?!?!?!?!?!?!
⦁ The Boone Center Lot (320 Columbia Avenue) will not be patrolled during the talk.
