About this Event
The Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management (FKRM) Research Seminar Series features presentations by visiting scholars, faculty members and invited guests to share their personal knowledge and expertise on a variety of topics and subjects.
FKRM is pleased to host Dr. Talia Mae Bettcher, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Waterloo and the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Trans Community Resilience.
Dr. Bettcher will discuss the gender critical philosophy underlying the Trump Administration’s attack on trans people.
Specifically, she will look at the metaphysical picture underlying the view that women are adult, female human beings as well as the political arguments for excluding trans women from spaces reserved for females. Dr. Bettcher will argue that both the metaphysical picture and the political arguments are deeply flawed.
Doors open at 1:00 p.m.
The talk begins at 1:30 p.m. with a formal opening, followed by a presentation from a graduate student in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management before the keynote address.
After the keynote, Dr. Fenton Litwiller and Dr. Talia Mae Bettcher will participate in a fireside chat, with time for audience questions.
The event will conclude with a reception.
The full event is expected to run until approximately 4 p.m.
