About this Event
Share your voice! Shape History!
We are excited to invite community members to participate in one of three in-person storyteller’s circles!
An oral history storytellers' circle is a way of gathering community memories by inviting people — often elders or longtime residents — to sit together and share personal stories about a place, rather than being interviewed one-on-one. A facilitator asks open questions (like "what do you remember about this street?"), and stories build off each other as people listen and respond.
Story Circles are used to preserve history that isn't written down anywhere else, and to pass that history on to younger generations. We invite you to share your story.
The questions below are examples of what our interviewers will ask during these conversations — we're sharing them here so you can see the kinds of stories we hope to gather, and so you can start thinking about what you might want to share.
- When did you first become aware of the building at 1012 N. Main Street?
- How did your family, neighbors, or cultural community support one another, build economic self-reliance, or practice joy and pride in the face of local racial hostility or exclusion?
- Do you remember seeing Klan activity, gatherings, demonstrations, or members in Fort Worth? Were there particular incidents involving the Klan or racial violence that people in your community talked about?
