About this Event
Located about an hour south of Morgantown, this asylum was built for about 250 patients but had over 1,500 at its peak.
At one point in its history, the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, then known as Weston State Hospital, also had a Tuberculosis Sanatorium, one of three in the state.
This 90-minute tour will take you through all four floors of this massive building introducing you to the asylum's history, various treatments for the sick and mentally ill, and the tragedy that came from the various policy changes which over institutionalized and undersupported care for the sickest among us.
Bus transportation to and from Weston and entry to the facility will be covered by the WVU Honors College.
