Tran$form is a material exploration by students in SD4463 Sustainable Product Design, supported by the Material Resource Centre (MRC). In collaboration with Hong Kong Note Printing Limited (HKNPL), seven student groups transformed banknote-printing waste—usually destroyed—into innovative products and material samples through shredding, pulping, pressing, weaving, and reformulation.
From tactile surfaces and functional objects to speculative material systems, the works extend paper fibre’s lifecycle and recast waste as a valuable design resource.
Celebrate the students' work and the partnership between manufacturing and sustainable design education, and discover how discarded currency becomes new material currency.
