Art at the Farm: Traditional Papermaking with Fresh Press StudiosSunday, October 11 | 2:00 to 4:00 PM
Sunday, October 25 | 9:00 to 11:00 AM
Orchard Classroom | $65 per person | Ages 12 and up
Paper starts as a plant. In this hands-on workshop, you'll see exactly how that happens.
Fresh Press Studios, the agricultural-fiber paper lab at the University of Illinois, is bringing traditional Western papermaking to the Orchard Classroom as part of our Art at the Farm workshop series. You'll work with miscanthus and cotton fibers, learn how they break down into pulp, and pull your own sheets using a mould and deckle, the same tools papermakers have relied on for centuries. Then you'll turn your paper into handmade cards to take home.
No experience is needed. Your ticket includes all fibers, tools, and materials, plus hands-on instruction from the Fresh Press team. Every participant also qualifies for future studio hours at Fresh Press, so you can keep going after the workshop.
Papermaking is wet work, so wear clothes that can get damp. Please check in at the farm store when you arrive.
