About this Event
Danie Liden is a designer with a passion for materials and processes. Over the course of his career, Daniel’s work has become increasingly focused on sustainability and 2024 saw the publication of his first book Better Things: Materials for Sustainable Design. In a market flooded with vague eco-claims and surface-level material swaps, Daniel takes a structured, data-driven approach to sustainable product development, as evidenced in his work for leading international brands like Nespresso, Logitech and BIC.
The next generation of designers is in a unique position to redefine what is considered good, authentic and desirable product design. This lecture by Daniel Liden will question whether it’s even possible to talk about design in those terms if it doesn’t take sustainability into account. Exploring a wide range of creative approaches for reducing the environmental impact of product design, the lecture will also introduce an exhibition of exciting new work on circular materials by CCS students.
This lecture will take place in the Wendell W. Anderson, Jr. Auditorium in the Walter B. Ford II Building on CCS's Ford Campus (201 E. Kirby St, Detroit, MI, 48202). Parking is available in the Brush Street lot (on Brush just north of Frederick).
