About this Event
A tour of SweetSong Groves, a 2-acre urban tropical fruit farm in north Sarasota County. This is a hobby farm owned an operated by Darryl McCullough, treasurer of the Manatee Rare Fruit Council and a longtime board member of Sunshine Community Harvest. The Groves contain about 125 fruit trees, including mango, avocado, lychee, longan, starfruit, jaboticaba and some rare species, as well as native plants and ornamentals. Darryl will discuss some characteristics of these fruits, as well as his non-toxic, ecologically sound hirticultural methods.
Much of the fruit produced by SweetSong Groves is donated to local food charities. Proceeds of this tour are donated to Sunshine Community Harvest to support its community composing and food rescue programs.
