🎉 NEW EVENT COMING TO MANITOWOC! 🎉Touch the Budget — Monday, November 2 | 4:00–6:00pm
City of Manitowoc residents, we’re trying something brand new — and you’re invited!
Introducing Touch the Budget, a fun, hands-on family event inspired by our popular “Touch the Truck” days… but with a budget twist!
Bring the whole family to City Hall’s parking lot to climb on, explore, and get up close with the vehicles and equipment your tax dollars support — ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, snow plows, buses, and more. Plus, City Hall will be open for walk-throughs of different departments, including the Mayor’s Office!
📘 What’s the twist?
This event happens right after I present the 2027 City Budget. While the kids enjoy checking out the fire engine or sitting in the snow plow, parents can learn how much these items cost, what it takes to maintain them, how many staff we have, and what I’m recommending for next year’s budget.
💡 The goal:
Make our city budget more accessible and engaging — especially for residents who don’t typically attend budget meetings. Learn where your tax dollars go: how much we spend on public safety, street maintenance, salt, tree stump removal, and so much more.
🏛 Inside City Hall:
• Walk through departments and learn about their budgets
• Stop in the Mayor’s Office — kids can take a photo at the Mayor’s Desk with Mayor Nickels!
• Committee meetings will be happening live in the Council Chambers, so you can see city government in action.
