Tool Training: Black Cat Labs 90W Laser Cutter

Doug works as a scientist for his day job, but he grew up helping his dad in the wood shop building furniture. At Artisans Asylum, he makes wooden boxes, signs, and artwork, and he uses the laser cutters to etch designs, drawings, and logos into his work. Over the past few years, the lasers have become an integral element to his creations, and he has extensive experience using them to combine digital design with classic woodworking techniques.

Harness the power of lasers to cut or engrave nearly anything you can draw on a computer into wood, acrylic, and more. Learn how to safely operate our Black Cat Labs 90W laser cutters. Students will be introduced to safe materials and cutting practices to operate independently in the laser shop. Students will learn Light Burn, the software to send graphics to the laser cutter. This class does not cover designing your own graphics. Look for our design for laser cutting classes.

Students will be able to safely, independently operate the Black Cat Labs Laser Cutters. Identify safe materials and determine laser settings.

Plywood will be provided for sample cuts.

Students must be 16 years old or older. All students under 18 must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.

Some familiarity with any computer drawing software will be helpful.
