A new Tommigun album. Ten years on from the last one: ‘Wooden Son’.
Coming home after all sorts of wanderings? Is that it? Coming home to that ugly, beautiful city, Brussels. Brussels is actually simple. The city moves you and then you want to lose yourself in it; or it doesn’t, and then you want to get away from it as quickly as possible. Brussels, Tommigun’s home town.
Songwriter Thomas Devos creates small, simple sketches of a few chords and a vocal melody in his music room in Molenbeek. He then takes these to Tommigun at Joeri’s garden shed on the outskirts of Brussels. The magic lies in the simplicity and the different personalities who bring it to life. Their heartbreak-hangover tunes are bittersweet songs with an underlying menace and the occasional searing outburst. A bit like Brussels. Raw and unpredictable, but with a great zest for life, despite everything. And with ‘Heavy Bones’, a fresh perspective has been opened up.
The album ‘Heavy Bones’ feels like a statement: ‘Heavy bones, heavy bones, I know… yes we head to the bones, head to the bones I know…’ We’re all on our way to the end, but not without throwing an intense party first.
Thomas Devos: Vocals, Guitar
Kaat Arnaert: Vocals
Pim De Wolf: Bass
Joeri Cnapelinckx: Keys
Bertel Schollaert: Saxophone
