Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka shares about her practice bringing together traditional craft techniques
About this Event
Tin Can Talks is an artist talk and social event to learn new things, meet new people, and get out of the house on a Thursday, whilst still getting in bed at a reasonable hour for a school night.
TCT #3 features Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka: Nature as Collaborator
In Alexa's work she simultaneously continues and protects traditional techniques, while developing personal imagery that places her work within contemporary space. She will speak to her material sensibilities and her respect for and engagement with traditional techniques and craft processes. Perceptions about the fragility of paper are challenged as she engages with paper as a media that holds sculptural and installation-based potential, as she addresses themes of personal identity and ecological sensitivity.
