Susan's presentation returns you to when towering white pines covered the land in northern Wisconsin. Through the cold winter months, loggers worked to fell trees to pile on the riverbanks. In the spring, river drivers moved the logs to the saw mills. Her talk explores the story of Wisconsin's logging boom, the devastation it caused, and the extraordinary efforts to restore the cutover land and log sustainably. She describes letters, postcards, and other primary sources from the time designed to inspire creativity and critical-thinking skills. She will encourage listeners to think about the importance of trees and forests in our communities, with time for story-sharing at the end.
