Building the Future: Who's Going to Do the Work?
About this event
You don't have to be a quantum physicist to work in quantum. So who does work in these businesses, and how did they get there?
Quantum security, robotics, advanced manufacturing. We hear plenty about the technology, but rather less about the people building the businesses around it.
And that's what we're curious about at this month's Third Thursday.
We're joined by Susie Piggott from KETS Quantum Security and Pok Hay Ng from Q5D Technologies, who both work with teams developing some fascinating technology.
We'll find out how they ended up in deep tech, what sort of people their businesses need and how much of the expertise comes from other industries. Are the skills really that different? Can someone move from financial services, software or more traditional engineering into quantum or robotics? And are there opportunities that people simply don't know exist?
Of course, these are growing businesses too, with many of the same challenges as everyone else. Finding the right mix of people, bringing different personalities and disciplines together, developing leaders and keeping the culture that made the business a good place to work in the first place.
We'll also talk about the South West. Are we making the most of the skills and experience already here? What are the gaps? And what could make it easier for people to move between sectors?
It's a chance to get to know two interesting businesses, hear from the people working behind the scenes and have a conversation about careers, skills and where the opportunities might be.
You don't need to work in deep tech to have something to contribute. In fact, that's rather the point.
Join us for the conversation, a chance to ask questions and the usual Third Thursday catch-up with people from across our tech community.
Do you work in the creative, digital or tech space?
If yes, this is the perfect place to meet other like-minded individuals in the Bath and Bristol area.
See you there!
