4WARD Quartet is a dynamic jazz ensemble formed out of East Tennessee State University. Featuring Ben Earl (tenor sax), Tristan Bauer (keys), Jakeb Hardin (bass), and Andrew Whitaker (drums), the group blends over a decade of individual experience per member into a focused, high-energy unit.Under the mentorship of Asheville pianist Alex Taub, the quartet draws from the driving spirit of John Coltrane to the modern edge of Joshua Redman, exploring repertoire from the 1950s through the 1990s. Their sets balance straight-ahead swing and groove-based tunes, presented through original arrangements shaped by a contemporary “young lions” approach.
With tight interplay and a deep respect for the tradition, 4WARD Quartet delivers a fresh, modern take on classic and contemporary jazz.
